HI! I'M ANTON OUYANG
and I'm running to be your ASB Vice President :)

HEYOOO WHAT'S POPPIN? IT'S YA BOI ANTON :D
and yes... if you ever heard that iconic intro it’s me :)
Besides serving as the self-proclaimed official vlogger of the Class of 2022, some of you might know me as the tall and lanky kid explaining to his friends why “golf is a sport” during lunch. Or like some of you, pulling an all nighter finishing my lit essay the day before it’s due. On the other hand, you may know me as the overly spirited person in the Lynbrook gym, cheering for my class and jumping up and down at rallies. Oh, and did I mention I was wearing a tutu?
Yup, that’s me. I’m Anton, nice to meet ya! I would dap you up right about now, but I hope this is okay :)
In 2019, I served as the Sophomore Class President, and it was until this year I decided to become an ASB Spirit Commissioner for my love of public speaking and rallies, which I hope to be back doing next year! During summers you can usually find me on my driveway cutting cardboard and painting Homecoming decs, vibin to music, and chatting with my friends. In addition to making hoco decs, I loveee traveling: I’ve been to ~25 countries and states total! Contrary to popular belief of me being a D1 level basketball player, I instead play golf. I’ve been competing since I was 5 years old, and in my freshman year, I was lucky enough to win the CCS Golf Championship for Lynbrook and I am proud to represent the Vikings :D
SO... WHY VICE PRESIDENT?
The Easy Answer: Because I love leadership and everything it stands for.
You’re probably thinking right now “wowwww is that not a cliché answer?” And that’s because it is, but trust me, there are more important reasons than that.

MY JOURNEY
Ever since an early age, I’ve always loved smiling. Not just me trying to get the picture-perfect smile in the mirror, but the smiles of my friends, family, and everyone around me. So I started asking questions. And the answer for me was leadership.
First, it was that feeling of doing something kind for another person that made me join Miller Leadership. Soon and before I knew, it was high school and the realization that you are creating something so much larger than just yourself, but events that would get the whole school smiling. And that’s how I got started :)

BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS
To get to that end result, however, I can tell you there was definitely some blood…lots of sweat… and of course... tears, but tears of joy and happiness. Let’s take Homecoming as an example!
For those of you that have experienced Homecoming before, you know what it’s like. For those who don’t know, essentially it is 1000+ kids screaming, cheering, and celebrating their months of hard work and dedication. If you were like me at Miller, you were probably wondering what that distant scream was in the middle of October…it was Homecoming.
The process of creating Homecoming on the other hand was much more than what people saw as the end result. Instead, it was the hundreds of stressful hours high schoolers gave up for their class in an effort to do one thing: make the whole school smile. And that made it all worth it :)

IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE ONE DEFINING HIGH SCHOOL MOMENT WHAT WOULD IT BE?
If you had to make me choose one event in high school, it would be without a doubt my Sophomore Homecoming. However, I’ve realized that it’s not the same for everyone.
Instead, it might be a specific rally. Some might say it’s the time they won their DECA glass, and some will answer as seeing their Funky Monkey robot finally finished. Or for others, it could be the first time you gathered enough confidence to raise your hand in Chemistry Honors.
A matter of fact is that each one of our experiences in high school is different. Each individual is unique and our interests vary. But what if we could become closer as a whole school? What if we could come together as one unified community?
And that is why I’m running to be your Vice President, so we can grow ever so closer as a community. One that not only supports one another but also shares the same smiles :)

MY VISION
Two words: Community and Spirit.
(that’s technically 3 but work with me here guys)
At this time with remote learning and the pandemic, we are more distant from each other than ever before. And even during normal school, we often stick inside our bubble, afraid of reaching out and seeking discomfort. So what do I plan on doing about it next year?
ASB has always been viewed as an exclusive group and I think we as students are more similar to ASB than we might think. They too are afraid to reach out of their bubble and I hope to resolve this issue.

CLUBS + ASB = THE PERFECT MATCH <3
83 clubs. 12 competition clubs.16 service clubs. And 55 interest clubs. We are extremely lucky to be apart of such a diverse and broad community, so why not use that to our advantage? ASB needs to branch out and clubs are the perfect link to ASB. You might be thinking “bro, this sounds an awful lot like Community Link,” but I’m talking about involving clubs with all ASB commissions.
Lynbrook is often perceived as only a STEM or academically competitive school. To tell you the truth, we are but I’m proud of so many other things besides that and for one - it’s Lynbrook’s spirit. In my opinion, I think ASB Spirit is the perfect way to expand traditional norms, and it’s one of the reasons why I became a Spirit Commissioner this year.

COMMUNITY AND SPIRIT??
Rallies are arguably the most attended ASB event, and I think we should use that as the link between not only clubs at Lynbrook but to the world as well. Now you’re probably thinking I’m trying to ruin the fun dynamic of a rally, but imagine classes competing against robots or competing to make a true impact on the world. Different right? Students at Lynbrook are able to broaden their perspective of Lynbrook by not only celebrating our spirit but also finding connections to other students on campus and making a positive difference in the world.
And to do that not only we as students must reach out of our bubble but ASB too.
